Tallow balm is a bit different to lotions: warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips for a few seconds until it melts, then press it into slightly damp skin (straight after a shower is ideal).

It should sink in within a minute or two. If it’s still not working for you, please email me and I’ll make it right.

Hi Maureen, Johnny here, I make the balm myself.

You're right that this batch set firmer than I wanted, and I'm adjusting the tallow-to-beeswax ratio for the next one. I've been in touch by email and a jar from the softer batch is on its way to you shortly.

For anyone reading: it's a balm, not a cream, so it's meant to be firm in the jar. Scrape a thin layer off the top with a fingernail rather than digging out a scoop, warm it between your fingertips for a few seconds until it goes clear and oily, then spread. That small amount covers face and neck.

Both things you've flagged have changed since your jar.

I've adjusted the beeswax ratio down a little so the current batch is softer to scoop, and changed the rendering to run lower and slower, which has taken most of the smell out.

It'll still firm up on a cold night, that's the no-water, no-preservative trade-off, but it gives way faster between your fingers now.

I'd like to send you a jar from the current batch so you can tell me if you notice the difference; I'll email you. (No promises to the dog.)
