Can You Use Tallow Balm on Your Lips?
Short answer: yes. A lot of people keep their jar on the bedside table for exactly this.
Can you put tallow balm on your lips?
Yes. AusTallow is made from tallow, beeswax and olive oil, with no fragrance or essential oils, so it can be used on lips the same way as on the rest of your face. A tiny amount is enough. It works best at night, when it can stay on for hours. During the day, especially outdoors, use a lip product with SPF, because a balm does not protect your lips from the sun.
How to use it on lips
- Take a very small amount, smaller than a pea.
- Warm it on a fingertip for a second or two.
- Dab it onto your lips, then press them together.
- Reapply whenever they feel dry, and once more before bed.
Jar balm vs a lip balm stick
- A jar means using a fingertip, so wash your hands first. One jar covers face, hands and lips.
- A stick is easier in a pocket and more hygienic on the go. Many contain added flavour, fragrance or SPF.
- Taste. AusTallow has no flavour added. You may notice a faint natural note from the beeswax.

When to check with a doctor
If your lips are cracked and bleeding at the corners, very swollen, or not getting better with a balm, see your GP or pharmacist. Ongoing lip problems can have causes a moisturiser will not fix.
